MOHAWK 75, FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 58
The Mohawk Mohicans closed the regular season with their 16th consecutive victory Wednesday, a 75-58 win over Frankfort-Schuyler. The win also completed a perfect final season within Division II of the Center State Conference.
Mohawk (17-1, 10-0 CSC-II) owns the longest active win streak in Section III and received the No. 1 seed for its Class C-2 playoffs Thursday. Beaver River, the top seed in Class C-2, is also 17-1 and has won 15 games in a row.
The Mohicans will play at home in the sectional quarterfinals against the winner of Friday’s first-round game between Sandy Creek and Weedsport.
Paul Joyce had the first two baskets Wednesday as Mohawk started its game with a 7-0 run. The Mohicans led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter and maintained the same eight-point margin at halftime.
Kainan McCarthy scored the next five points after Joyce and led Mohawk with 25 on the night. Carson Murphy narrowly missed a triple-double with 21 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists; he also had four steals. Mike Santillo had nine points and six assists and Joyce finished with eight points.
Mitch Shortt scored 15 points for Frankfort-Schuyler (4-14, 3-7 CSC-II).
