CHERRY VALLEY, N.Y. — Jake Hoag’s goal three minutes into the first overtime period gave Cherry Valley-Springfield’s state-ranked Patriots a 3-2 victory over the Fort Plain Hilltoppers Saturday.
Evan Yacowenia opened the scoring for Fort Plain and a goal by Mark Hanifin put thye Hilltoppers (6-3-0) up 2-1 in the second half. Tyler Barhydt assisted on Hanifin’s goal.
Shawn Cope and Alex Shuster scored goals for Cherry Valley-Springfield which owns the No. 3 ranking in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s Class D poll.
Ashton Parker made six saves for Fort Plain.
The Hilltoppers travel to Mayfield Wednesday.
REMSEN 4, ST. JOHNSVILLE/OPPENHEIM-EPHRATAH 0
OPPENHEIM, N.Y. — Garrett Shufelt scored two goals Saturday in the Remsen Rams’ 4-0 shutout victory over St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah.
Shufelt’s goal on a direct kick accounted for the only scoring in the first half and he added one of the Rams’ three goals after halftime.
SHARON SPRINGS 8, CANAJOHARIE 1
SHARON SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Sharon Springs Spartans got two goals each from Dan and Sam Schilde Saturday in an 8-1 win ove Canajoharie’s Cougars.
The Spartans led 5-1 at halftime. Levi Christman contributed a goal and two assists, Zach Bartlett added one of each, and Robin Kaluza and Jon Roach had the other goals.
Douglas Ullman made seven saves for Sharon Springs while Andrew Smith had 15 for the Cougars.
Joe Mazzarella scored for Canajoharie (0-11-0, 0-9-0 WAC South) with an assist from Nathan Rockwell.
NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 10, FAITH FELLOWSHIP CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 0
EARLVILLE, N.Y. — Colin Cleghorn scored three goals and Jake Houseman recorded six points Saturday as New Life Christian School routed Faith Fellowship Christian School 10-0.
Houseman scored two goals and assisted on four others while Cleghorn added an assist to his hat trick. The other goals came from Philip Dickerson, Brendan Cleghorn, Willie Fairfield, Jason Neidhart and Kier Faisst. Tim Grime and Mark Brown combined on the shutout with six saves between them.
NORTHVILLE 5, ST. JOHNSVILLE/OPPENHEIM-EPHRATAH 1
OPPENHEIM, N.Y. — Josh Ostrander had two goals and an assist for Northville Friday in the undefeated Falcons’ 5-1 win over St. Johnsville/Oppenehim-Ephratah.
Zach Bedell and Jimmy Cole each had a goal and an assist for Northville (10-0-0, 7-0-0 WAC North) and Mackenzie Groff scored the other goal. Michael VanNostrand made eight saves.
Joey Rider scored in the second half for St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah and Robert Jaikin had 10 saves.
HERKIMER 1, WEST CANADA VALLEY 0, overtime
HERKIMER, N.Y. — Casey Scalise broke a scoreless tie late in the second overtime period Thursday and lifted the Herkimer Magicians to a 1-0 victory over West Canada Valley’s Indians at Herkimer County Community College.
The teams went scoreless through 80 minutes of regulation play, one 10-minute overtime period and 7 1/2 minutes of the second before Scalise took a pass from Ben Wenke and buried a shot in the back of the net for the golden goal with 2:20 left on the clock.
Herkimer (3-7-1) won despite being outshot 31-8. Goalkeeper Trevor Roorda turned away numerous West Canada Valley scoring chances, including several late in regulation and during the first period of overtime play. Roorda earned the extended shutout with a total of 26 saves.
Mike Sternberg had nine saves for the Indians (2-8-1).
West Canada Valley next plays Monday at home against Frankfort-Schuyler. The Magicians travel to Ilion Monday.
REMSEN 2, LITTLE FALLS 0
REMSEN, N.Y. — The Remsen Rams rode two first-half goals to a 2-0 win Thursday at the expense of the Little Falls Mounties.
Garrett Shufelt scored first off a corner kick in the 24th minute of play and Nathan Corr added an unassisted goal nine minutes later to complete the scoring for the Rams.
Remsen goalkeeper Keith Smith earned the shutout with eight saves.
Nate Jensen made six saves for the Mounties (2-6-1, 1-3-1 CSC-IV).
The Mounties travel to Springfield Monday for a match against Owen D. Young. The Rams have a match scheduled Saturday against St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah in Oppenheim.
ILION 2, MOHAWK 1
HERKIMER, N.Y. — The Ilion Golden Bombers took a 2-0 lead in the first half Thursday on the way to a 2-1 victory over Mohawk at Herkimer County Community College.
Brett Risi scored first midway through the first half with an assist from Dan Ward and Nick Souvannason added a goal assisted by Jack Liberty seven minutes later for the 2-0 advantage.
Mohawk got a goal from Corbin Woodruff seven minutes into the second half but could not punch in a second goal to tie the score. Gabe Smith assisted.
Ilion (6-5-0, 5-1-0 CSC-I) had a 10-6 edge in shots and got five saves from Dan Colburn in the victory. Pat Mills made eight saves for the Mohicans (1-6-1, 1-3-1 CSC-I).
Mohawk plays Monday at Adirondack while Ilion is home that evening for a match against Herkimer.
MT. MARKHAM 2, WATERVILLE 0
WATERVILLE, N.Y. — Jack Caraher scored twice in the first half for Mt. Markham Thursday and led the Mustangs to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Waterville Indians.
Caraher scored 48 seconds into the contest with an assist from Jeremy Slosek than tallied again with an assist from Blair Bellamy after 16:11 had come off the clock.
Jared Drymond earned the shutout with three saves for the Mustangs (7-3-0).
Alec Strohmeyer made nine saves for Waterville (2-7-1).
The Mustangs play at home under the lights Monday against Cooperstown which defeated previously unbeaten Sauquoit Valley 6-0 Thursday.
FORT PLAIN 3, ST. JOHNSVILLE/OPPENHEIM-EPHRATAH 1
FORT PLAIN, N.Y. — The Fort Plain Hilltoppers got two goals from Tyler Barhydt Wednesday and defeated St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah for the third time this season.
The Hilltoppers (6-2-0, 4-2-0 WAC North) did all of their scoring in the first half of Wednesday’s 3-1 win. Jeremy Wilson tallied the other goal while Sam Kirkpatrick assisted twice and Evan Yacowenia once.
Jaxson Smith scored in the second half for St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah (2-6-0, 1-5-0 WAC North) and was assisted by Alex Bowers.
Ashton Parker made seven saves for Fort Plain while Justin Case had 10 for St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah.
SCHOHARIE 3, CANAJOHARIE 0
CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. — Schoharie got a six-save performance from Sean Lawyer Wednesday in the Indians’ 3-0 shutout of the Canajoharie Cougars.
Dylan LaBadia scored two goals and Tim Beninati had the third for the Indians.
Andrew Smith made five saves for Canajoharie.
OLD FORGE 4, WEST CANADA VALLEY 0
OLD FORGE, N.Y. — Kevin Kress scored two goals and assisted on a third for Old Forge Tuesday as the Eskimos blanked West Canada Valley’s Indians 4-0.
Bill Brosemer and Patrick Venetz combined to make seven saves in the shutout for the Eskimos (6-1-1). Billy Rockhill and Mike Salsbury scored single goals for Old Forge which led 4-0 at halftime.
Mike Sternberg had four saves for West Canada Valley.
NEW LIFE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 8, MESSIAH ACADEMY 3
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. — Philip Dickerson and Jake Houseman had matching hat tricks for New Life Christian School in Tuesday’s 8-3 win at Messiah Academy.
Dickerson scored the first three New Life goals and Houseman had an assist to go with his three goals. Colin Cleghorn had the other two goals for New Life.
Tim Grime started in goal and combined with Dickerson to make 11 saves.
WATERVILLE 4, LITTLE FALLS 1
LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Waterville Indians got two goals and an assist from Mike Ellis Tuesday in a 4-1 win over Little Falls at Monroe Street Field.
Waterville had defeated the Mounties by the same score Sept. 8 when the teams met at Brothertown Stadium.
Little Falls (2-5-1) struck first in the rematch and took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Evan Davis scored a goal assisted by Dylan Krowicki in the 16th minute of play.
Ellis drew the Indians (2-6-1) even 2 1/2 minutes later when he scored for the first time with an assist from Ryan Staskowski. Ellis then assisted on a Cody Kellogg goal 99 seconds before the half expired and Waterville took a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
The Indians added a second goal to their lead at the outset of the second half with Logan Belfield scoring a goal set up by Staskowski 52 seconds into the period. Ellis completed the scoring in the 53rd minute of play; Mike Purcell and Scott Rockwell were both awarded assists on the play.
Alec Strohmeyer made seven saves for the Indians while Nate Jensen had 14 for the Mounties.
Little Falls is on the road Thursday for a match at Remsen.
FAITH FELLOWSHIP CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 5, MOHAWK VALLEY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 3
LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Nick Gallogly scored two goals for Mohawk Valley Christian Academy but the Eagles came out on the losing end of a 5-3 score against Faith Fellowship Christian School at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Eagles led 3-2 at halftime but Faith Fellowship’s Flames tallied three goals in the third quarter to take the lead and held Mohawk Valley Christian off the scoreboard for the final 40 minutes of play.
Nicole Steenburgh was credited with the other goal for the Eagles and Marissa Shepard recorded numerous saves in the mud and rain.
Mohawk Valley Christian plays at home again Tuesday against New Life Christian School.
HAMILTON 1, POLAND 0
WATERVILLE, N.Y. — Hamilton’s Emerald Knights defeated Poland for the second time this season, shutting the Tornadoes out 1-0 at Waterville’s Brothertown Stadium Tuesday.
The unbeaten Emerald Knights won by the same score when the teams opened the season with a match at Herkimer County Community College Sept. 4.
Daniel Meeks scored an unassisted goal 10:10 into the match to give Hamilton (7-0-1) the only scoring in the contest. Goalkeeper Kinon Nolan-Finkle did his part for the Emerald Knights, making 10 saves to earn the shutout.
Justin Weakley recorded five saves for the Tornadoes (6-2-0) who had won six matches in a row following the earlier loss to Hamilton.
Poland is on the road Monday for its next match at Old Forge.
SCHENECTADY CHRISTIAN 7, CANAJOHARIE 0
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Chris McCarty had a hat trick for Schenectady Christian Monday in the Falcons’ 7-0 shutout win over the Canajoharie Cougars.
Four other players added single goals for the Falcons (5-1-0) and Dillon Brown recorded eight saves in the shutout.
Andy Smith had 15 saves for Canajoharie (0-9-0, 0-7-0 WAC South).
