LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Blue Devils rallied to win the first game of Wednesday’s match then took the next two to complete a 3-0 sweep of the Little Falls Mounties on the road.
The Blue Devils won the final five points of the opening game to set the stage for a 25-22, 25-12, 25-15 victory. Trailing 22-20 following an ace served by Sara Casullo, the Blue Devils sided out with a Marissa Mowers kill off a deflection. Carissa Petras served an ace for a 23-22 lead and Mowers closed out Game 1 with back-to-back kills. The Blue Devils had led the first game 10-3, 13-5 and 18-10 before Little Falls sided out and rode an eight-point serving run by Ashley Barnes to take the lead.
Lora Allen had 20 assists, one kill and three digs for Dolgeville (15-0, 11-0 CSC-I) and served 23-for-24 with eight aces; Mowers had 12 kills and 10 digs; Petras had eight kills, a block, four aces, an assist and four digs; Lexy Barretta served 10-for-11 with six aces and had three assists, a kill and a dig; Taylor Mykel had seven kills and a block; Charli-Rose Seeley had six aces and two digs; Courtney LaQuay had two aces and four digs; Liz Mosher had three kills and a dig; Shelby Warren had two assists; Katie Smith had a kill and a dig; and Renee Johnson had an assist and a dig.
Kirstie Green served six aces with two digs for the Mounties (10-7, 7-4 CSC-I); Barnes had six assists, three aces three kills and eight digs; Holly Lawrence had two kills and four digs; Casullo had an ace, a kill, an assist and four digs; Ashleigh Stephenson had three digs and an ace; Jennifer LaCourse had a kill, an ace and two digs; and Miranda Salamone and Kara Cruz each had three digs.
Little Falls was a 25-10, 24-26, 25-20 winner in junior varsity play. Janela Mendl had seven kills, an ace and two digs for Little Falls; Katie Boepple had eight aces, two kills and three digs; Katie Orsaio had five assists, an ace and two digs; Sarah Piana had three aces and three digs; Erin Noyes had five assists, two kills and two digs; Paige Horender had four digs and an ace; Danielle Petkovsek had two digs and an assist; Shelby Reardon had two assists; Megan Corbett had two kills; Kaleigh Warn had two digs, a kill and an ace; Taylor Anderson had and ace and two digs; and Tess Krowicki had three digs. Ashley Mettler had three kills, three aces and four assists for Dolgeville; Emily Young had four kills; Heather Randall had three assists; and Lindsey Kopet had three digs.
The Mounties’ next match is Friday at Ilion while Dolgeville plays at home Friday against Mohawk. The Blue Devils will host their annual Finale Tournament Saturday with teams competing from Mt. Markham, New York Mills, Holland Patent, Herkimer and Syracuse’s Living Word Academy.
