DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Football Club held its fifth induction ceremony June 14 at Arthur’s Restaurant in Dolgeville during the village’s annual Violet Festival weekend.
The club inducted 15 new members bringing the total number of members to 75. Club president Stan Bilinski introduced the inductees with some brief comments about each individual’s playing years or association with the Blue Devils and then presented them with a recognition plaque commemorating their induction.
Bilinski then introduced the first of two speakers, former Little Falls resident Bob Casullo. Casullo has coached at the high school, college and NFL level and was recently named assistant head football coach at Syracuse University. He spoke about his playing years at Little Falls High School and his close friendship with the late Harry “Skip” Smith, one of three posthumous inductees.
The main speaker, retired Dolgeville head football coach Jerry Walczak followed Casullo. Walczak spoke briefly about the players and what it means to be a part of Dolgeville football and its history.
To date, those who have been inducted have been selected by club members. Beginning with next year’s class, former inductees will be offered the opportunity to submit several names of people they would like considered for induction in the future.
On hand for the ceremony were 2009 inductees John and C.J. Huddleston, Bob Schmid, Walt and Bill Chmielewski, John Carpenter, Bert Patterson, Rich and Rob Syke, Monty Lyon, Darren Lee and Blane Eagles. The posthumous inductees were Smith, Charles DeLucco and Jarrod Lyon.
