BOYS' TRACK AND FIELD -

ADIRONDACK 71, DOLGEVILLE 70

DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — Thursday’s dual came down to the final event and a split second gave the Adirondack Wildcats a win in the race and the meet against Dolgeville’s Blue Devils.

The Wildcats’ four-by-400-meter relay team ran a time of 3:43, a fraction of a second faster than Dolgeville, and beat the Blue Devils to the finish line. That event put Adirondack over the top for a 71-70 win in the dual.

The teams’ balance showed through out the meet. On the track, Dolgeville dominated the sprints while Adirondack took most of the points in the distance races. Dolgeville swept the 100-meter dash with Doug Gray, Nick Hopson and Erwin Carrington and did the same in the 200 with Clay Ardoin, Zack Goyette and Carrington. Adirondack’s Joe Healt won the 400-meter race with two Blue devils — Gray and Kyle LaGrange — on his tail.

Healt, Matt O’Rourke and Preston Denny won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200- meter races, respectively, for the Wildcats. Alex Marshall took second in the 3,200 for Dolgeville’s only distance points.

The Wildcats won two of the three relays. Dolgeville’s team of Noah Hopson, Goyette, Carrington and Ardoin won the four-by-100 in a finish that was even closer than the four-by-400.

Dolgeville entered winners in all but one of the field events but that event played a key role in Adirondack winning the meet. The Blue Devils entered no pole vaulters and conceded nine points to the Wildcats in that event.

Alex Marshall won the high and triple jumps for Dolgeville, LaGrange took the long jump, Ardoin won the shot put and T.J. Scharpou placed first in the discus.

Adirondack hurdler Luke Cliver won his 110- and 400-meter races.
