ILION, N.Y. — Matt Tanzini, a member of two NJCAA championship teams at Herkimer County Community College and the 1996 national player of the year, was inducted into the NJCAA soccer hall of fame at Friday's national championship banquet in Francesca’s.

Tanzini scored 39 goals in two seasons while leading the Generals to the 1995 and 1996 NJCAA championships as part of the program’s record 106-game winning streak. He continued his playing career at the University of West Virginia then played professionally for several years. Tanzini’s Harrisburg City Islanders won a USL2 championship in 2007.

Tanzini was introduced at the induction by his former coach Perry Nizzi who now coaches at Hamilton College after leaving Herkimer.
