Offensive most valuable player Tyler Plows scored three goals Monday and led the Mt. Markham Mustangs to a 4-0 win over Owen D. Young’s Wildcats in the championship match at the West Winfield Optimist Tournament.

The tournament started the week after Labor Day but the final round was postponed due to a sever Sept. 8 storm.

Plows also assisted on Davide Delia’s goal for the Mustangs (6-5-1) who led 1-0 at halftime. Delia, Jarrod Hubbard and Travis Beach, the tournament’s defensive most valuable player, each assisted on one of Plows’ goals. Mike Gras made four saves for Mt. Markham.

Kyle Ferguson recorded 11 saves for Owen D. Young (4-5-0).

In addition to Plows and Beach, Mustangs Jacob Allen, Matt Bleaking, Kris Pontero and Warren Salo were selected for the tournament’s all-star team. Other all-stars were Tyler Latulipe and Sam Wright from Camden and Adam Ross and Tim Beal from Vernon-Verona-Sherrill; Owen D. Young opted not to participate in the all-star selection process.

Vernon-Verona-Sherrill defeated Camden 3-0 in the consolation match. Justin VanDuLuitgarden made five saves in the shutout and three players scored for the Red Devils.

The Mustangs are home again Wednesday for a match against Morrisville-Eaton. The Wildcats play at Westmoreland Wednesday.

FRANKFORT-SCHUYLER 2, REMSEN 2, tie

FRANKFORT, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights trailed at halftime Monday but scored in the second half and salvaged a tie against Remsen.

Garrett Shufelt and Matt Kuiken scored in the first half to give Remsen’s Rams a 2-1 lead at the break. Sebastian Bullard made 18 saves.

Emra Ljubijankic and Dan Kislyak each scored one goal and assisted on the other for Frankfort-Schuyler. Goalie Mike Swienton made eight saves.

Frankfort-Schuyler plays at home Wednesday against Little Falls. Remsen takes on Old Forge Wednesday at home.
