MOHAWK 1, HERKIMER 1

Mohawk and Herkimer scored goals less than one minute apart in the first half Tuesday and played to a 1-1 tie at the Tolpa Athletic Complex.

Zack Meszler scored first for Herkimer’s Magicians (4-7-2, 3-2-1 CSC-II) with 4:31 left in the first half. Mark Verenich played the ball off to Meszler inside the penalty area and was credited with the assist.

Forty-seven seconds later, Mohawk’s Brandon Brault ripped a shot from beyond 25 yards out and scored to pull ten Mohicans (4-7-2, 2-4-1 CSC-II) even on the scoreboard. The assist went to Paul Joyce.

Herkimer had a second goal nullified by an offsides call when Verenich knocked in a rebound of a Colin Acker shot midway through the second half.

Connor Shultz was credited with 15 saves for Mohawk and Austin Perry with 10 for Herkimer.

The tie for the Magicians clinches and outright Center State Conference Division II title for West Canada Valley. The Indians were already assured of a share of the title with the teams scheduled to meet Tuesday in Newport.
