MOHAWK 9, WEST CANADA VALLEY 2

MOHAWK, N.Y. — The Mohawk Mohicans broke a tie in the fourth inning Tuesday and defeated West Canada Valley 9-2 behind a 11-strikeout performance by left-hander Jim Traglia.

West Canada Valley had tied the score at 2 with a run in the top of the fourth before Mohawk came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. The Mohicans put together five hits during the inning and took advantage of three errors by the Indians. Steve Luppino and Bill LeClair singled with one out and a miscue on LeClair’s hit allowed Luppino to score the go-ahead run. Two more errors followed before Andy Conklin, Ryan Hunt and Dillon Hassett hit run-scoring singles in succession.

The West Canada Valley defense, which had erred once in its previous four games, turned porous with seven errors Tuesday.

John  LeClair had three hits for Mohawk and scored three times. Conklin added a pair of hits. Traglia scattered four hits, walked four batters and allowed one earned run. Six of Traglia’s strikeouts came on called third strikes.

Robert McKerrow had two of the West Canada Valley hits.
