The Herkimer County Community College Generals finished the regular season Saturday with a sweep of their doubleheader with Corning Community College.

At 33-4, The Generals expect one of the top three seeds for the Region III playoffs and will begin play at home Tuesday with a one-game playoff against an opponent to be determined. The winners of Tuesday’s four games travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College Saturday to compete for two spots in the NJCAA’s Division III World Series.

The region was scheduled to seed its tournament Sunday evening.

The Generals won Saturday by scores of 13-2 and 3-2, shortening the first game to five innings under the mercy rule then winning the second in their final at-bat.

In Game 1, Mollee Putnam worked four innings and gave up two runs on five hits for the Generals. Krista Oakes entered in relief and struck out out the side in the fifth inning .

The Generals scored 11 runs in the third after Corning had taken a 2-0 lead in the top of the inning. Nicole Mulieri went 3-for-3 for Herkimer with two runs and one RBI while Jessica Dutka went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in. Stephanie Siriano added a 15th home run to the school record she already owns.

Cheyenne Bumpus started the second game in the circle and went 5 1/3 innings for the Generals, allowing two runs on five hits. Oakes again pitched in relief and fanned four of the six batters she faced.

At the plate, the Generals had just five hits off Colie Sutryk, three of them by Andrea Rogers. The game was tied in the bottom of the seventh inning before Dutka’s single drove Nicole Mulieri home with the winning run.
