Taylor Pohleven of Spencerport completed her fourth year of competitive gymnastics with a silver medal at the USA Gymnastics Level 7 State Championships in Rochester April 14 and 15.

Competing against 55 of the state’s top qualifying 12-year-olds, the Cosgrove Middle School seventh-grader earned medals by placing second in the all-around and balance beam competition. Pohleven’s all-around score was 37.325 out of a possible 40. She scored 9.40 on the balance beam and also finished fourth in the floor exercise with a 9.45 and fifth on the uneven parallel bars with a 9.175.

Pohleven competes for Kathy King’s Bright Raven Gymnastics Team. She placed first in nine separate events and took first-place overall honors at four of her eight meets. In her previous three seasons of competition at the state level, Pohleven finished first in three out of eight meets and first overall as a Level 4 gymnast; first overall in five out of nine meets and second overall as a Level 5 gymnast, including first on beam and floor; and first in five out of seven meets and eighth overall as a Level 6 gymnast by taking second place on beam following rehabilitation of a broken ankle.

Pohleven is coached by Colleen Sherbyn and spends 15-18 hours each week at Bright Raven’s gym. She is the daughter of Margie and Mike Pohleven and the granddaughter of Dolgeville residents Lou and Betty Pohleven.
