CLONAN-WICKS-STALEY POST 6, HERKIMER POST 1
A big third inning doomed Herkimer Post 38 Thursday and paved the way for a 6-1 victory for Clonan-Wicks-Staley Post 1000 at Sauquoit Valley Central School.
Clonan-Wicks-Staley Post scored five runs on two hits, two Herkimer Post errors and a walk. Mike Lallier’s RBI-double capped off the damage and the team finished the inning with a 6-0 lead.
Herkimer Post scored its only run when Mike Sternberg, who was 2-for-4 in the game, singled, stole second and came home on a hit by Cody Crossett.
Herkimer Post’s Brandon Roberts was 1-for-2 on the day and drew a walk. Robert Holt also had a hit.
Jeff DeShane threw six strong innings for Clonan-Wicks-Staley Post, striking out seven of the batters he faced. Aaron LoPiccolo closed out the game without allowing a run or a hit. He retired the side in order while striking out one.
LoPiccolo was also 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.
Both teams play on the road Monday. Herkimer Post travels to Camden for a game against Moran-Sylvan Beach Post 66.
