KESHEQUA 3, SAUQUOIT VALLEY 1, overtime

There is no golden goal in girls’ soccer and that allowed Section V champion Keshequa to find the net twice in overtime Saturday as its Indians defeated Sauquoit Valley’s Indians 3-1 to earn a spot in Sunday’s state Class C title match.

The match had been tied at 1 at halftime and remained so at the end of regulation. Undefeated Keshequa (21-0-1) needed just 84 seconds of extra time to break the deadlock then added a second goal as time ran down at the end of the first of two 10-minute overtime periods.

Keshequa immediately went on the offensive in overtime and the go-ahead goal came off the foot of Shannon Gordinier who took a centering pass from her sister Tessa Gordinier on the left wing.

Section V’s Indians were awarded a penalty kick when Haley Russell was taken down inside the penalty area with five seconds remaining in the period. Russell
when low to the left with her shot and gave Keshequa a two-goal lead.

Keshequa had struck first in regulation. Alex Flint scored unassisted 14:14 into the contest.

Sauquoit Valley (18-3-1) drew even five minutes before halftime when Jenna Mazza beat a defender then put a shot past goalkeeper Katie Forrester.

Keshequa outshot the Section III Indians 14-7. Forrester made four saves while Alyson Gaffney had six for Sauquoit Valley.

Keshequa’s opponent in Sunday’s final will be Section II Hoosick Falls, a 3-0 semifinal winner over Friends Academy of Locust Valley in Section VIIII.
