SOUTH LEWIS 79, HERKIMER 73

Senior Joe McKinney scored a career-high 30 points for Herkimer in the Magicians’ season-ending 79-73 loss to South Lewis in the first round of Section III’s Class C-1 playoffs.

The Magicians (6-12) trailed by 24 points before scoring 32 in the fourth quarter. Herkimer had its deficit down to two points before turning the ball over late in the game. McKinney went 14-for-16 at the foul line in the fourth quarter and fellow senior Adrian Viscomi was 4-for-4 while scoring 12 of his 20 points in the final period.

Matt Mooney scored 17 points and Dylan Marolf had 16 for No. 8 South Lewis (10-9) which advances to play a quarterfinal Tuesday at No. 1 Beaver River. Shawn Loomis added 12 points while Michael McLane and Jason Martin each scored 10.

Malik Briggs had 11 points for the Magicians.
