UTICA, N.Y. —
MOHAWK VALLEY CC 74, HERKIMER COUNTY CC 39
The nationally-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks took an early lead on Herkimer County Community College Thursday and clinched their 10th consecutive Mountain Valley Conference title with a 74-39 victory.
Sophomore Victoria Thomas led Mohawk Valley with 20 points. Freshman Stevie Ray added 14 points. Barrie Brooks was one of three MVCC players to grab seven rebounds.
“I don’t think we’re 35 points better than Herkimer,” Mohawk Valley coach Jason Carpenter said. “We identified their shooters and we did a nice job of contesting their jump shots. Certainly that may have had an affect.”
The Hawks were 57-40 winners in Herkimer when the teams met Jan. 29.
Mohawk Valley is 24-2 and ranked third in the most recent NJCAA Division III poll.
Samantha Randio had 15 points for Herkimer (19-7) and Whitney Brown added 14 points. Randio, Brown and Victoria Seabrooks all had seven rebounds.
The Generals travel to North Country Community College Sunday before playing their final home game Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Hudson Valley Community College.
