The Utica College Pioneers scored only eight points in the second half of Monday’s 59-29 loss to SUNY-Oneonta.

Trailing 30-21 at halftime, the Pioneers (2-1) missed 25 of the 28 field goals they attempted after the break and lost for the first time this season. They shot 11-for-16 overall — 18 percent — and 3-for-21 on their three-point tries — 14.3 percent. In addition, they missed eight free throws in the second half and finished the game 4-for-16 at the charity stripe.

Utica led 9-6 with 12 1/2 minutes left in the first half but went scoreless for more than seven minutes and fell behind by 12 points. The Pioneers went six more minutes without a point after Meghan Fiore had the first basket of the second half. The drought was the start of a 17-3 run that Oneonta up 47-26. Utica recorded a single free throw after Bridget Greenwald’s basket with 8:36 left to play.

Greenwald had a career-high 22 rebounds and led the Pioneers with nine points. Thirteen of Greenwald’s rebounds were offensive.

Kristin Pappalardo scored 16 points for Oneonta (3-1) while teammate Lyteshia Price had 12 points,11 rebounds and six steals.

Utica plays at home again Tuesday against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Oneonta takes on Hartwick College at home Wednesday.
