MOHAWK VALLEY DIAMONDDAWGS 9, ALBANY DUTCHMEN 6
ALBANY, N.Y. — Jonathan Ross homered twice Sunday afternoon and helped the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs bring a 9-6 victory home from their first visit to Bleecker Stadium.
Ross, the DiamondDawgs’ designated hitter from Savannah State University, connected twice against Albany Dutchman Evan Tieles and cracked his team-leading third and fourth home runs of the season — he had previously homered in his first two New York Collegiate Baseball League games — as part of a 4-for-5, five-RBI performance. Ross’ second home run, a three-run blast, knocked Tiele out of the game and gave Mohawk Valley a 7-3 lead through five innings.
Albany’s bullpen held the DiamondDawgs in check for three innings and the Dutchmen closed to within one run before Mohawk Valley scored twice in the top of the ninth.
Rob Deveney drove in three runs for Albany with a bases-loaded double. Kyle Wong added a two-run double in the eighth inning.
The DiamondDawgs have a scheduled day off Monday and will return to action Tuesday in Amsterdam They are scheduled to play at home Wednesday against Watertown on Free Movie Night with an appearance planned by former big league pitcher Tommy John.
Saturday’s home game against Glens Falls was postponed because of an electrical problem at Veterans Memorial Park. The postponement was Mohawk Valley’s third in its last four home dates.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. — The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs have taken a liking to the Duffy Fairgrounds. They won their for the second time in four nights Friday and improved their record to 3-0 against the Watertown Wizards with a 5-2 victory on the road.
The DiamondDawgs took a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and one in the second. Bryce Nugent drove in the first run when he hit into a force play and Steve Nickel later scored on a Dennis Hill balk. Reggie Keen reached base on a dropped third strike to start the second inning, stole second, moved to third on a ground out an scored when Adam Cutspec grounded out to second base. The RBI was the first in New York Collegiate Baseball League play for Cutspec, the former Fort Plain High School star who made his second start for Mohawk Valley.
Three runs served Billy Martin well as the Canisius College hurler held Watertown to one run on six hits over seven innings in defeating the Wizards for the second time.
Watertown got one run back against reliever Devin Lange but Mohawk Valley struck for two in the top of the ninth. Keen bunted for a hit leading off and both runners were safe on another bunt by T.J. Gavlik. Tucker Jensen hit Navarro Hall with a pitch to load the bases with one out and two runs scored on Nickel’s grounder to shortstop. Nickel was credited with an RBI for hitting into a fielder’s choice; the second run came home on a wild throw on the play.
Nickel and Keen each had two hits and Keen scored twice.
Neiko Johnson went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Watertown.
