BOYS' VOLLEYBALL: Mustangs beat Living Word Academy in five games

The Mt. Markham Mustangs came back from a 2-1 deficit to beat Living Word Academy of Syracuse in five games Saturday afternoon.

The Mustangs won the first game and dropped the next two before settling in against the Lions and winning 25-24, 25-27, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19 in a battle of unbeatens.

Sam Cerelli had 40 kills, three aces and three digs for Living Word Academy (3-1); Eric Duke had 21 kills, a block, an ace, and three digs; Dan Mead had 64 assists, a kill and a block; Forrest Thompson had two blocks; and Sean Myers had two kills.

John Farruggia had 20 kills, seven blocks and two aces for Mt. Markham (6-0); Cody Homer had 27 assists, 13 kills, six blocks and an ace; Travis Beach had 31 assists, 11 kills, four blocks, an ace and four digs; Beau Wheelock had seven kills and six digs; Ben Gurtowski had six kills, seven blocks and a dig; and Zach Chapman had 20 digs and an ace.

Mt. Markham won the junior varsity match 2-0.

The Mustangs have another match at home Tuesday against Sauquoit Valley.
