MIDDLEBURGH 51, DOLGEVILLE 34
The Dolgeville Blue Devils traded runs with Middleburgh at the start of Saturday’s game but the Knights had two more in them and won the rescheduled Coach Cutspec Tournament game by a 51-34 score.
Middleburgh was beaten by St. Johnsville in the only game of the three-team, round-robin tournament that was played as scheduled Dec. 28. Dolgeville returns to St. Johnsville to meet the Saints in the final game Saturday.
The Knights, who scored only seven points in the first half of their 40-27 loss to St. Johnsville, had the first nine points of Saturday’s game. Dolgeville answered with a 9-0 run of its own and tied the game on Bryce Dineen’s three-point shot on the opening possession of the second quarter. Middleburgh then scored eight straight points and followed a basket by Dolgeville’s Devin Bullock with 10 more to go up 27-11 early in the second half.
Dolgeville (0-9) never got closer than 12 points after that. The Knights led by 17 points at the end of the third quarter and got up by as many as 21 in the fourth.
Adam McMullen led the Knights with 11 points. Ryan Bechtold scored 10 points and was named to the tournament’s all-star team.
Shane Jaquay scored 11 points and Bryce Dineen had eight for Dolgeville.
The Blue Devils play at Rome Catholic Monday.
