Several area wrestlers are among the top seeds heading into Section III’s Class D Tournament Saturday at Sandy Creek High School.
Dolgeville’s Danny Fox, Little Falls’ Tyler McLean and Mohawk’s John Mazza all enter the the tournament as No. 1 seeds.
Fox is seeded first with teammate Noah Handy second at 99 pounds; one of the Blue Devils is likely to bump up to 106 pounds for the tournament. Six other Blue Devils received top four seeds with three joining Handy as 2s. Ben Nastovski. Triston Engle and Kaleb Smith are seeded second at 113, 126 and 152 pounds, respectively, Travis Kopet and Richard Lyon are seeded third at 195 and 160, and Kasey Foster is seeded fourth at 172.
Engle is seeded behind only Mazza at 126 pounds. Mazza defeated Engle in the title bout last weekend at the Center State Conference Tournament after Engle entered as the No. 1 seed. For his effort, Mazza took home the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler trophy.
Mohawk’s Stephen Davis is the No. 3 seed at 285 pounds. Zach Fesco is seeded fourth at 182 while Tim Rathbun and Rich Rinaldi are five seeds ate 120 and 160 pounds, respectively.
McLean is the No. 1 seed in the 195-pound class. Mountie Andrew Messina, the Center State Conference’s 106-pound champion, is seeded second for the class tournament.
