MAY 16 MEN'S LACROSSE
Paul Wehrum’s coaching career has taken him all over the United States. On Wednesday it puts him back in a familiar spot.
Wehrum’s Union College Dutchmen meet the Red Dragons of SUNY-Cortland in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA’s Division III tournament. The game takes the Herkimer County Community College coaching legend back to his alma mater for a contest unprecedented in the 84-year history of Union lacrosse.
“I know how to get to the stadium,” joked a Wehrum, a three-time All-American at Cortland in the early 1970s who still holds the school record with 10 goals in a game against SUNY-Brockport in 1970. “It’s not going to be a problem finding it.”
MAY 14 SCHOLASTIC BASEBALL
Rain prevented Herkimer from locking up the Center State Conference’s Division II title Monday evening and the Magicians got no help from the other remaining contenders.
MAY 13 COLLEGE BASEBALL
The Niagara County Community College Thunderwolves were probably the least likely Final Four team to make the trip to Little Falls for the Region III Tournament over the weekend but that did not stop them from advancing to the NJCAA’s Division III World Series.
Mike Elwood and tournament most valuable player Dylan Baun powered the Thunderwolves to a 17-4 win over Erie Community College Sunday in a rematch of last year’s championship game at Veterans Memorial Park. Niagara extended an unbeaten postseason run and avenged last year’s loss to the Kats.

MAY 10 GIRLS' TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP
The Herkimer Magicians defeated West Canada Valley’s previously unbeaten Indians Thursday and forged a tie atop the Center State Conference’s Division I dual meet standings.
Both teams are now 7-1 with a single dual left to contest. West Canada Valley travels to Clinton Monday. Herkimer’s final dual is May 21 at Westmoreland. The Magicians host the league championship meet Wednesday and the overall Division I champion will be crowned on the basis of points earned through duals and Wednesday’s meet.
A sweep of the relays was the key to Herkimer’s 74-67 head-to-head victory Thursday as the Magicians took all 15 scoring points in a dual they won by seven. West Canada Valley won nine of the 14 individual events.

MAY 9 COLLEGE SOFTBALL
The Herkimer County Community College Generals had every reason to be confident entering Wednesday’s rescheduled Region III playoff game. “That was the plan,” said P.J. Anadio, coach of the top-seeded Generals. “Start Krista (Oakes) and try to get the lead.”
