Richard H. “Dick” Rickard, 73, formerly of 57 E. Main St., Mohawk, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012, in Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare in New Hartford.
Dick was born in Albany on Sept. 3, 1938. He was the son of the late Vera Rickard. He was educated in Mohawk and worked in the Herkimer County Highway Department as a semi-truck driver until his retirement. He also drove school bus. On Nov. 25, 1987, he married the former Debbie Maury in Mohawk. Dick was a member of the Mohawk Fire Department, the Mohawk Exempt Firemen and was also an avid bowler.
Dick is survived by his wife, Debbie; his children, Rebecca Dygert, of Millers Mills, Shelly Smith and her husband, Bryan, of Mohawk, Katherine and her husband, Sam Bianchi, of Mohawk, Glenn and his wife, Missy, of Williamstown, W.Va., and Steven, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; brother, Walter and his wife, Janet Hartwick, of Mohawk; sister, Joan and her husband, David Miner, of Mohawk; mother-in-law, Eleanor Dutcher; an aunt, Betty Herringshaw; brothers-in-law, Eugene Tucker, of Mohawk, and David Maury, of Richfield Springs; a sister-in-law, Linda and her husband, Rodney Coyle, of New Hampshire; and step sisters, Sara and Verna. He also leaves 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a grandson, Cody Rickard, in 1999; his brother, Raymond Rickard; his sister, Eleanor Tucker; a son-in-law, Gary Dygert; and Kuddles, his cat.
Friends are invited to a graveside service on Saturday, July 7, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer. Ken Palmer, chaplin of the Mohawk Fire Department, will officiate. In keeping with Dick’s wishes, there are no calling hours, and memorial contributions may be made to the Herkimer County Humane Society.
