Helen I. Smith, 83, of Cottage Street, St. Johnsville, passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica.
She was born November 30, 1924, in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Jay A. and Rheta (Sitts) Lenig, and was a graduate of St. Johnsville High School.
Her marriage to Wesley S. “Red” Smith took place on June 21, 1946, at St. John’s Reformed Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of 53 years until the passing of Mr. Smith on June 6, 1999.
Mrs. Smith was employed at the former Little Falls Footwear in St. Johnsville.
A woman devoted to her family, Helen proved herself a loving and caring mother, sister and grandmother.
Survivors include her son, Danny Jay Smith and friend, Addie Cronin, of Gloversville; a sister, Joan Mosher, of St. Johnsville; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda Myers, and a brother, Donald J. Lenig.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the Enea Family Funeral Home, 9 Center St., St. Johnsville, with Sister Johanne McCarthy, parish life director of St. Patrick’s Church, St. Johnsville, officiating. Burial will be in West St. Johnsville Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 8, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. All memorial contributions may be made to S.A.VA.C.
