William A. “Bill” Sohns, 84, a longtime Little Falls area resident, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, with the love and support of his family by his side.
Bill was born in Jermyn, Pa., on Sept. 19, 1928, the son of the late William Jacob and Helen (Morcom) Sohns. A proud veteran of the United States Navy, he honorably served his country during World War II. On April 19, 1952, in Frankfort he was united in marriage to the former Ann Hext; the couple shared 60 years of commitment, love and mutual respect.
Bill worked as a machinist for Remington Arms, Ilion. A devoted family man, he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He derived much pleasure from the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann; his sons, Jerry Sohns and wife, JoAnne, of Mohawk, and Dan Sohns and wife, Patty, of Herkimer; his daughters, Lorrie Serow, of Stratford, and Karen McGowan, of Mohawk; his cherished grandchildren, David Sohns and wife, Erin, Stephen Serow and Heather, Matt Sohns, Christopher McGowan and wife, Ashley, Jessica McGowan, Joshua Serow, Sam McGowan and Dana, Samantha Sohns and Sarah Sohns and Dylan; his great-grandchildren, Camden, Adrianna, Keira, Garrett, Austin and Lily; a sister, Lois Kast, of Herkimer; his in-laws, Jean Lytwynec, Donald Hext and Harold Durand; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, David Sohns, in 1974; a brother, Edward Sohns; and a sister, Helen Durand.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls (823-2424), from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013. His funeral service will commence immediately following calling hours at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the spring at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls, with full military honors.
