Richard Joseph Crain, 70, of 155 S. Litchfield St., Frankfort, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at St. Luke’s Health Care in New Hartford.
Mr. Crain was born on November 21, 1937, in Cooperstown, the son of the late John Joseph and Florence Helen Crain. He was a 1957 graduate of Cooperstown High School and joined the Army, serving one tour in Korea and two tours in Germany.
On April 18, 1960, he married the former Mary Ann Butts. They were married for 46 years until her passing on September 12, 2006. He then married the former Jeanie Mosher on March 13, 2007.
Mr. Crain was employed at the Remington Arms Co. retiring in 2000, he then worked for Wal-Mart until last year.
Mr. Crain attended Dennison Corners Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed reading and old westerns, especially those featuring John Wayne and Clint Eastwood.
Mr. Crain is survived by his wife, Jeanie; two sons, Timothy and Wanda, of Sidney, and Chris and his companion, Linda Miller, of Plattsburgh; three daughters, Wendy and Phil Tumolo, of Rock Hill, SC, Kaleena and Michael Moshier, of Herkimer, and Kendra and her companion, Chuck Warn, of Ilion; two brothers and sisters in-law, John and Louise Crain, of Scottsdale, Ariz., and William and Sally Crain, of Elizabethtown; two sisters and brothers in-law, Pat and Carl Knapp, of Jacksonville, Fla., and DeeDee and Dick Helmke, of Ocala Fla.; two step children, Gary Warner Jr., of Frankfort, and Kristyna and Shane Knoblauch of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, three step grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was pre deceased by a son, Keith, and a sister, Florence.
Funeral services for Mr. Crain will be held on Monday, June 16, 2008, at 1 p.m. at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion, with Pastor Donald King officiating. Interment will follow in the Springfield Center Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service and are asked to consider memorial donations to the Frankfort Ambulance, envelops are available at the funeral home.
