Clara M. (Tolfa) Frezza, 97, formerly of 4 Rockefeller Dr., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the St. Johnsville Nursing Home.
She was born July 12, 1915, in St. Johnsville, the daughter of the late Joseph and Loretta (Coggi) Tolfa. Clara graduated from St. Johnsville High School, class of 1935, and graduated from the Mildred Elley Business School in 1938.
Her marriage to Paul Frezza took place on April 4, 1959, at St. Patrick’s Church in St. Johnsville. The couple shared a blessed union of 25 years until the passing of Paul on Feb. 5, 1984.
Mrs. Frezza was employed for over 40 years as a secretary for the St. Johnsville Central School District.
Clara will be remembered for her love of entertaining her friends, traveling, especially to Italy, and her zest for living a happy life. She never let her age deter her from anything, especially building the home she enjoyed and loved at 92 years old.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, now Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, in Fort Plain and its Rosary Society. Clara was an active member of the St. Johnsville Business Girls and enjoyed belonging to the Red Hatters.
Survivors include a brother, Guido (Skeets) Tolfa, of Utica; two sisters, Molly Battisti, of St. Johnsville, and Jessie Tolfa, of Frankfort; eight nieces, Sandra Weckter, Loretta Smith, Rebecca Sokol, Lorraine O’Connor, Debra Veit, Tina Nabinger, Christa Giarrizzo and Virginia Harry; five nephews, Joseph Tolfa, Peter Tolfa, Robert Tolfa, Larry Tolfa and Richard Battisti; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Larry and Peter Tolfa.
In keeping with Clara’s wishes, there are no public calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Burial in St. Johnsville Cemetery will take place in the spring.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vincent A. Enea Funeral Service, 20 Bridge St., St. Johnsville, 518-568-7040.
