Agnes C. Ashley, 81, of Little Falls, passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Utica, following a short illness.
She was born on February 18, 1927, in Utica, the daughter of the late Louis and Coletta (Heintz) Ehlinger. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, Little Falls, class of 1944, where she was the valedictorian and served as the school’s first female class president.
She was united in marriage to her husband of 19 years, Dr. Robert C. Ashley, M.D., in 1975. He predeceased her on September 7, 1994.
Mrs. Ashley was a member of Holy Family Parish Church, Little Falls.
She was employed at one time as a cashier for the former Loblaws Grocery Store, Little Falls, and later as the manager of the coffee shop at Little Falls Hospital for many years.
She is survived by her eight children, Cherilyn LeVick and her husband Allen of Little Falls, John Kevin Carrig of Herkimer, Barbara J. Carrig of Little Falls, Bart M. Carrig and his wife Kathryn of Little Falls, Marie Juckett and her husband Robert of Bangor, Maine, Keith M. Carrig and his wife Kim of Essex Junction, Vt., Nancy F. Carrig and her fiancé Dr. Edward Lee of New Hartford and Steven P. Carrig and his wife Kay of Grand Cayman Island; a stepson, James M. Ashley of Florida; a stepdaughter, Genevieve Jeffers and her husband Lucius of Salisbury; a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo Carrig of Little Falls; two sisters, Elizabeth Yule of Utica and Roberta Wagner and her husband Richard of Deerfield; four brothers, Joseph Ehlinger and his wife Arlene of Little Falls, George Ehlinger and his wife Alice of Gray, Peter Ehlinger and his wife Carmen of Orchard Park and Paul Ehlinger and his wife Christine of Monaca, Pa.; 19 grandchildren, Michael LeVick, Amy Locke, Cara Czerniak, Aaron Carrig, Daniel Carrig, Cisco Carrig, Bart C. Carrig, Brendan Carrig, Kellan Carrig, Bart McCarthy, Ryan McCarthy, Robert Juckett, Madison Carrig, Ezra Graves, Marie Emma Graves, Trent Carrig, Sasha Carrig, Joshua Carrig and Brian Carrig; two special granddaughters, Valerie Reardon and Robin Moran; many great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Paul L. Carrig on October 20, 1990; four sisters, Margaret Worlock, Frances Fonda, Rosella Isele and Armella Gorton, and two brothers, Louis Ehlinger, KIA, World War II, and Thomas Ehlinger.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Final interment will take place in Rural Park Cemetery, Inghams Mills.
Arrangements are by Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Mrs. Ashley be considered to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852 or to a charity of one’s choice. Envelopes are also available at the funeral home for this purpose.
