Mary K. Irving, M.D., 87, of 4 Burwell St., Little Falls, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008, at her residence.
She was born on July 14, 1920, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Frederick and Hildred (Greene) Irving. She was a graduate of Little Falls High School and valedictorian of the class of 1938. She continued her education by graduating from Albany State University, class of 1942, with a bachelor’s degree in math and science and by graduating from Syracuse University Medical School, class of 1950, serving her medical internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich., from 1950–1951 and her internal medicine residency at the same hospital from 1951–1953.
Dr. Irving was in general practice from 1953–1973 at Little Falls Hospital. In 1973, she attended Albany Medical College Hospital to serve her residency in anesthesiology and returned to Little Falls Hospital in 1975, where she continued to practice both internal medicine and anesthesiology until her retirement in July of 1990.
Dr. Irving was a member of the American Medical Association, Herkimer County Medical Society, New York State Medical Society, New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Central New York Academy of Medicine and was past president of the Little Falls Hospital medical staff.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Robert and Louise Irving, and their daughters, Nicole and Monica Irving, of Perry, Lisa Irving Ramirez and her son, Philip, of La Mesa, Calif., Richard Irving of Binghamton, and Mary Irving of Windsor, Colo.; her sister-in-law, Mildred Irving of Little Falls; her caregiver, Kathy Johns of Little Falls; and dear friends, Doris Burney, Roger and Jean Dussault and Grant and Charlotte Phillips, all of Little Falls. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Irving on June 6, 2007.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Parish Church, corner of Main and John streets, Little Falls, with the Rev. Anthony Ligato officiating. Interment will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery, Fort Plain, at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
It is the wish of the family that contributions in memory of Dr. Irving be considered to the Little Falls Public Library, 706 E.
