Eric J. Loucks, 57, assistant chief and paramedic (retired), city of Little Falls Fire Department, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Albany Medical Center, Albany.
He was born on Sept. 16, 1955, in Little Falls, the son of the late Adolph C. and Anne (Bilek) Loucks. He was a graduate of Little Falls High School and attended Graham Jr. College in Boston, Mass., for communications.
Eric was appointed to the position of fire fighter with the city of Little Falls Fire Department in 1983, and went on to receive his training to become a New York State EMT, and eventually, after years of dedicated study, becoming and AEMT and paramedic. He advanced his fire service education in numerous disciplines and was promoted to the rank of second assistant chief in 1989 and first assistant chief in 2001. He continued to serve in that capacity until his retirement from the department in 2003.
During his years with the city of Little Falls, and following his retirement, Eric was a well known instructor for Faxton-St. Luke’s EMS education. His passion for excellent patient care motivated him to train thousands of police, fire and EMS providers whose training touched the lives of countless patients and their families. For many years Eric was also employed as an attendant and tow truck operator for the former Carl’s Citgo Station, Little Falls.
He was a member of the IAFF, Little Falls Local 2966, board member of the Mid-State Regional EMS Council, NYS Association of Fire Chiefs and a proud member of the National Hot Rod Association. When he was not working or teaching, Eric enjoyed listening to music and was always eager to try out the latest electronic technology and gadgets. But his true passion was for everything about cars and drag racing, where he enjoyed traveling to the different races around the country and learning about the latest advances in automotive technology.
Eric was predeceased by his parents; and his brother, Craig C. Loucks, in 2007. He is survived by several cousins; and many dear and close friends and collogues.
In keeping with his wishes graveside memorial services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, town of Little Falls, at a time and date to be announced in the spring.
Arrangements are by Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
