Mr. Andrew Lesko, 85, formerly of Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, June 5, 2008, in Folts Homes, Herkimer.
He was born on October 8, 1922, in Loydell, Pa., son of the late Michael and Julia (Matai) Lesko, and was educated in Mohawk schools. A veteran of World War II, he served with the United States Army and enlisted on January 5, 1943, and was honorably discharged on April 2, 1946, holding the rank of private, first class. He was the recipient of the EAME Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and also the proud recipient of the Purple Heart. He graduated from Syracuse University. He was last employed with Pirelli Cable Company, Elkton, Md., and was of the Greek Orthodox faith. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include two nephews, Joseph Lesko, of Herkimer, and Aaron Lesko and wife, Linda, of Allentown, Pa.; and great nephews and nieces, Kevin Lesko, Christine Tyson and husband, Tim, and Chad Lesko. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Lesko, and three brothers, Michael Lesko, John Lesko and Joseph Lesko.
Mr. Lesko’s funeral will commence at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, 2008, from the chapel of the Enea Family Funeral Home, 220 N. Washington St., Herkimer, with the Very Reverend Ivan Semko officiating. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Saturday, June 7, 2008, from 9:30-10 a.m., prior to the service. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest. Full military honors will be offered by the U.S. Army.
