Eleanor R. Leon, 88, formerly of Valley View Courts, Little Falls, and since May 2012, a resident of the Mohawk Valley Health Care Center, Ilion, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at that residence.
She was born on May 1, 1924, in Little Falls, the daughter of the late Walter and Emma (Phillips) Pettengill. She was educated in Little Falls and Buffalo schools.
She was united in marriage to her husband of 53 years, Charles H. Leon, Jr., on March 24, 1951, at the First Baptist Church, Little Falls. Mr. Leon predeceased her on July 17, 2004.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Little Falls, and a past member of the Ilion Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
During World War II, Mrs. Leon was employed in aircraft parts manufacturing in Buffalo and later at Roswell Park Hospital, Buffalo. She was last employed as an inspector for the former Daniel Green Shoe Company, Dolgeville.
She is survived by three sons, Charles W. Leon (Robin), of Herkimer, William D. Leon (Crystal), of Little Falls, and Scott S. Leon (Kathleen Ball), of Frankfort; a daughter, Elaine Burgess, of Herkimer; her sister, Rosemarie Abamoussa, of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Heidi Leon, John Youker (Kathy), David Youker and William D. Leon, Jr.; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, Walter Leon.
Memorial services will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist Church, 555 Albany St., Little Falls, with the Rev. Christopher Wintermute, pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Stratford Cemetery, town of Salisbury, at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann St., Little Falls. There are no calling hours.
