Herkimer, N.Y. —
Herkimer County in the past week confirmed a case of a rabid raccoon in Newport, according to a news release.
The raccoon was sent to Wadsworth Laboratory and confirmed to be infected with the rabies virus.
Just last week the county confirmed another rabid raccoon found in the city of Little Falls.
Residents should exercise caution with all wild animals and treat them as potentially rabid.
Rabies clinics will resume in the spring through Herkimer County Public Health.
