In the news: An 8-year-old boy from Edwardsville, Ill., knew exactly what he would do if he won the $1,000 scavenger hunt prize: donate the money to his neighbors to help pay for cancer treatment for their 2-year-old daughter. And that’s exactly what happened when Wyatt Erber won the bank-sponsored scavenger hunt. The donation will help pay for chemo treatments for the little girl. Wyatt’s mom, Noelle Erber, said, "He's always been a very sweet boy. I'm very lucky to call him my son."

Happening today: President Barack Obama will accept his party’s nomination tonight at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C.

Opening bell: The Dow Jones opened at 13,047.48 after finishing up 11.54‎ points Wednesday.

Watercooler talk: Man fakes his own death to propose to girlfriend

A man in Russia faked his own death as part of a marriage proposal to his girlfriend. Alexey Bykov enlisted the help of a director, stuntmen, makeup artists and even a news crew to make it appear he was killed in a car crash. He then appeared, full of life, to the surprise of Irena Kolokov. Patrick Jones has more on the wacky proposal.
