A former Herkimer County coroner recently became the owner and funeral director in charge of the Ocoee Family Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Ocoee, Fla.
Ocoee is 12 miles from Orlando and is where Daniel J. Enea has taken over the business and day-to-day operations from Salvatore M. Cascio, who previously owned the funeral home that serves the communities of Ocoee and Winter Garden in central Florida. Cascio will remain active in the business.
“I fully support my father, Harry, brother, Kevin, and the operations of my family business, Enea Family Funeral Homes and Memorials, back in the beautiful Mohawk Valley,” said Enea in an e-mail. “I will strive to give the families of central Florida the same service I prided myself in back home.”
Enea announced his resignation from his county coroner’s position in November 2011, and relocated to Florida in December 2011. Since moving to Ocoee, Enea has become active in the Winter Garden Rotary Club, West Orange Chamber of Commerce, Ocoee Lions and Club and the local Catholic church.
He as also taken and passed his Florida funeral director law exam.
At the time he announced his resignation, after nearly six years as coroner in a district that includes the towns of Danube, Herkimer, Little Falls, Schuyler, Stark and Warren, Enea said it was “important for me to focus more on my personal life and funeral director career, and to support the operations of Enea Family Funeral Homes.” He said he was grateful for the opportunities he had been given and left with a “deep gratitude for having the opportunity of serving the residents of Herkimer County.”
The Ocoee Family Funeral and Cremation Chapel is a privately owned firm. “Some things in this life should not be corporate owned, and I believe a funeral home is one of them,” Enea said in an e-mail.
