In the news: This week very may well be the coldest week of winter we've seen in some time, meteorologists say. The current cold snap stretches from the Dakotas to New England and affects the Ohio Valley as well. The cold is producing -20 temperatures in some areas and is expected to last until Thursday. 

Opening bell: The Dow Jones opened at 13,649.70. The markets were closed yesterday.
