A vehicle used to transport flowers for funeral services has been stolen, according to the owner of Enea Family Funeral Homes of the Mohawk Valley.
“After 42 years in business, I’ve never had any type of issue from St. Johnsville to Frankfort,” said Harry Enea during a telephone interview on Tuesday afternoon.
“It’s very sad that people would do something like this,” Enea continued. “This vehicle has been used for hundreds of funerals.”
Enea described the vehicle as a white S10 Chevrolet with the license plate number “FLRCAR.” He said the vehicle was left at the Eneas’ Frankfort/Ilion location, at 4309 Acme Rd., on Sunday night. Enea said it had been a busy day, so it was left in the back of the parking lot.
“Ninety percent of the time it’s in the garage,” he said.
But between 10 p.m. Sunday and early Monday morning, the vehicle was stolen. Enea said the keys were not left inside the vehicle, so the culprits “somehow got the car started.”
“It’s very dark back there at night ... I’m hoping somebody saw something,” he said.
Enea said the town of Frankfort police are investigating.
Officers with the department could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
In July, a 2004 Chevy Impala was stolen as a family attended a funeral at Word Christian Center in Mohawk. A friend of the family found the vehicle four days later at the Wal-Mart in Herkimer.
“Stolen vehicles aren’t very common,” said Mohawk Police Officer Douglas Murphy in a July 7 Telegram article about the incident. “When one is stolen, it’s usually a joy ride situation and are later found in a parking lot.”
