Watercooler talk: Maurice Sendak, author of the popular "Where the Wild Things Are," died Tuesday at age 83, according to the New York Times. His editor said the cause of death was complications of a stroke. Sendak's most recent book was last year's "Bumble-Ardy."

Happening today: Today is V-E Day – aka Victory in Europe Day — the date when Nazi Germany’s surrender was accepted by the Allied troops.

Opening bell: The Dow Jones opened at 13,008.53, after it fell 29.74‎ points Monday.

Motivational quote: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” - John Quincy Adams

Gas update: According to GasBuddy.com, the highest gas prices in the Lower 48 are in California ($4.194) and Washington ($4.057).

Weird news: A 55-year-old grandmother auditioned for the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders squad over the weekend. She’s no slouch when it comes to fitness, though – she’s a fitness author and is in great shape. If she makes the squad, she would be the oldest Cowboys cheerleader ever.
