The Dolgeville Central School Board of Education discussed issues regarding the district’s pre-kindergarten program Tuesday night.
Currently, the district’s federally funded Head Start program taught by a Head Start family worker has an enrollment of 18 students ranging from three to four years old.
According to Superintendent Christine Reynolds, the program has a waiting list of nine, which demonstrates the district has a high need for the program.
The district is also home to the Herkimer County BOCES Universal Pre-Kindergarten program which operates in the same building. The BOCES Universal Pre-K program can service up to 36 students during the half-time program. The students split up the week with one class on Monday and Wednesday and another on Tuesday and Thursday, alternating Fridays. With two class instructors on staff, one specializing in regular education and another in special education, the class is certified to accept a capacity of six students with disabilities, said Reynolds.
In other business, the board will meet with Synthesis, an architectural firm, to assist with the upcoming capital project to repair the infrastructure of the school building, which includes the heating, lighting, updating security and repairing the parking lot. Three major projects being considered are updates to the auditorium, locker rooms and high school cafeteria, said Reynolds.
