In the news: A Brooklyn, N.Y., high school senior got the best graduation gift imaginable: He won the lottery. Robert Salo bought a $2 winning ticket not long before his graduation, and now he will be given $1,000 a week for his entire life (that’s $52,000 a year). Salo’s mother said the family was fretting about how to pay for college, but now they won’t have to worry about it.

Happening today: The big movies opening today are “Rock of Ages,” a PG-13 rock comedy starring Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Tom Cruise and Alec Baldwin; and “That's My Boy,” an R comedy starring Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg.

Opening bell: The Dow Jones opened at 12,651.91. It was up 155.53‎ points Thursday.

The creators of HBO's "Game of Thrones" reveal on the DVD commentary that a model of former President George W. Bush's head was used for a gruesome scene of heads on spikes. They insist that it was not a political statement, and they just used whatever models they had lying around.
