After an extensive investigation conducted by the Dolgeville Police Department, a former modified baseball coach and police officer in the village has been arrested for allegedly driving a patrol car around the Dolgeville Central School baseball field.
Greg Malta Jr., 24, of Barneveld, has been charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.
According to Chief of Police Howard Lanphier, Malta allegedly drove a department patrol vehicle onto the infield and around the base path of the baseball field behind Dolgeville Central School while he was on duty.
The incident occurred on May 12 at 11:13 p.m. and was captured on film by a surveillance camera at the school.
Malta was dismissed from his position as modified baseball coach on May 5.
“Allegedly he was angry over the dismissal,” said Lanphier.
In the wake of the incident, Malta has been fired from the police department.
“His actions are not only embarrassing and disappointing, but they also are illegal,” said Lanphier. “No one is above the law.”
