Dolgeville Fire Dept.
May 7
•At 8:01 a.m., Dolgeville firemen were dispatched to a flooded cellar at 75 Sullivan St., Dolgeville, the D.D.S.O. home. Upon arrival firemen found about 1.5 inches of water on the cellar floor. A portable pump and 40 feet of suction hose were used to draw the water level down low enough so their built-in sump pumps could take over. However, a rather large flow of water was still coming in from somewhere under the building. The Dolgeville Department of Public Works was called to check for the source with a sounding device designed for hearing underground leaks and a maintenance man for the home was also called. The building was then turned over to him. As firemen were about to leave the scene at 11:02 a.m. they were requested by Fulton County Fire Control to standby at the Dolgeville station for the Hilltop Fire Department while they were out to an automatic alarm at Oppenheim-Ephratah Central School and were relieved of that standby at 11:08 a.m.
