State police are investigating a fatal one-car accident on State Route 28.
On April 16, at about 5:15 p.m., troopers responded to the scene of the accident just north of Jordanville Road. The investigation revealed that a 2004 Chevrolet 2DS was northbound on Route 28 when the driver apparently lost control and crossed the roadway, exiting the west shoulder.
The car traveled approximately 200 feet down an embankment before it struck a tree, said police.
Edward E. Ostrander, 30, of Richfield Springs, was the driver and only occupant of the vehicle.
Emergency crews on the scene reportedly performed CPR and life saving measures shortly after the crash. Ostrander was transported by Cooperstown Medical Transport Ambulance to Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing.
The Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Troopers did not return calls on Tuesday for further information.
