Ilion Police
May 5
•Roy D. Abeling, 31, no address given, was arrested and charged with two counts of second-degree forgery and two counts of grand larceny. The arrest follows a complaint that said two checks were stolen from a village resident and forged, with money taken from the account. Abeling was arraigned in Ilion Village Court and was remanded to the Herkimer County Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 cash or $10,000 bail bond.
Little Falls Fire Dept.
May 1
•The department personnel responded to a report of a natural gas-like odor at 76 Burwell St., Little Falls, at 4:40 p.m. Upon arrival with Engine 112, firefighters determined the cause of the odor to be a knob on a stove that was turned in such a manner that the stove would not ignite. National Grid was on scene and the department personnel returned to service at the station at 5:38 p.m.

•The department personnel responded to the report of a brush fire on Sandy Lane Road, town of Little Falls, at 2 p.m. Upon arrival and investigation with Engine 111, firefighters found no cause for alarm and returned to service at 2:29 p.m.
