SYRACUSE — Elise Arsenault of Newport has been to the dean’s list at Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications for the spring 2008 semester. Students must achieve at least a 3.4 grade point average during the semester to qualify for dean’s list.

ONEONTA — First-year student Emily Scarano of Little Falls, daughter of Rocco and Margaret Scarano, is the recipient of the Outstanding First-Year Student Award in Biology at Hartwick College. The award is given to the first-year student who has attained the highest cumulative average for the year. Scarano, a graduate of Little Falls High School, is majoring in biology. At Hartwick, she has participated in women’s varsity tennis.

ONEONTA — Sophomore Jamie Rodriquez of Fort Plain, daughter of Jodie and John Rodriquez, is the recipient of the Modern and Classical Languages Department Prize at Hartwick College. The prize is given in recognition of outstanding work. Rodriquez, a graduate of Fort Plain High School, is majoring in biology and Spanish. At Hartwick, she has participated in the honors program and student alumni association.

BROCKPORT — Nicole Rider of St. Johnsville has achieved the dean’s list with a grade point average of 3.40 to 3.69 at The College at Brockport for the spring 2008 semester. Rider, who is a 2007 graduate of St. Johnsville Central School, is the daughter of Todd and Susan Rider.

SSCHENECTADY — Matthew J. Vielkind of Little Falls is a 2008 graduate of Union College in Schenectady, with a bachelor of arts, double major, in economics and history. He is a 2004 graduate of Little Falls Junior-Senior High School.
