The Salvation Army of Herkimer kicked off its annual Red Kettle Drive Saturday morning in front of Hummel’s Office Plus in Herkimer.
The drive has a goal of raising $30,000 and will run through Monday, Dec. 24.
Funds will support Salvation Army programs that provide toys and food baskets at Christmas, clothing assistance, disaster help in times of fire or flood and the food pantry and soup kitchen, according to Salvation Army Lieutenant Jessica Berkhoudt.
She said the Salvation Army serves all of Herkimer County with its efforts during the holiday season.
Kettles will also be located at Kmart, Hannaford, Herb Philipson’s and Wal-Mart in Herkimer.
To volunteer to help with the drive, contact the Salvation Army at 431 N. Prospect St. or call 866-1240 and ask for Lt. Jessica Berkhoudt or Capt. Jon-Erik Berkhoudt.
Last year’s campaign raised more than $28,000 for local families.
