Thanks to several generous donations, the Lassellsville United Methodist Church is in the process of installing a new roof. Erie Supply, of Rome, sold the church roofing materials at a reduced cost and Weather Rite Home Improvement owner Stan Busch agreed to install the new roof for half the original price quote, said Pastor Robert Lindsay.

The Lassellsville United Methodist Church has received a new roof due in part to several generous donations.
Through a recent article in The Times which outlined the church’s history and it’s need for a new roof, community members reached out to help the historical church, said Pastor Robert Lindsay.
After the article appeared he said the church received $9,610 in donations.
Donors who made the installation of the new roof possible include Lori Lupini, Eleanor Hayes, Tara Smith and Joy Fellowship Church, said Lindsay.
Erie Supply, of Rome, sold the church roofing materials at a reduced cost and Weather Rite Home Improvement owner Stan Busch agreed to install the new roof for half the original price quote.
“Without these acts of kindness a new roof would not have been possible,” said Lindsay.
The church holds a membership of 20 worshipers. “Because of our low numbers our church congregation donations could not afford to repair the roof alone,” said Lindsay.
The Lassellsville United Methodist Church is currently undergoing roofing repairs on the entire roof.
Pastor Lindsay said the church will continue to raise funds for the roof through community events.
“Through upcoming events we hope attract new members to our congregation,” he said.
For the first time in years, Lindsay said the church has started Sunday school for children ages 5 to 8, adding if other age groups become interested the church would expand the program.
The roof installation is scheduled to be completed by this weekend, just in time for Family Fun Weekend on Aug. 18 and Aug. 19. The church will conduct a chicken barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 18, with meals costing $5 per person. The rest of the weekend will include free hot dogs, ice cream, drinks, games and bouncy houses, said Linsday.
