The Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps prepared for their Drums Along the Mohawk performance at Herkimer High School on Thursday.
Based out of Atlanta, Ga., the Spirit of Atlanta is part of marching music’s major league.
“Students from around the country, ages 14 to 22, can audition to be a part of the group,” said visual designer Aaron Morgan on Thursday.
“It’s important that people know about our team, because there is no drum corps team in New York state, but anyone in the country who fits the requirements can try out for the team,” said publicity coordinator Roseann Grotevant.
Although the corps is open for all to audition, Grotevant said about 20 to 100 musicians will try out for one position, so it takes a dedicated student to make the team.
The team competes all over the United States.
