Internet: Time to Go Apple Picking

Apple picking and apple farm visits are a favorite this time of year.  Much has been written and talked about with the apple shortage this year with some crops being down as much as 70 percent.  But many of us are still looking forward to picking apples or getting our hands on some homemade apple cider.

New York is the second largest apple producing state with an average of 29.5 million bushels or production annually.   Approximately 694 commercial apple growers provide 10,000 direct agricultural jobs and 7,500 indirect jobs such as handlers, distributors, marketing and shipping.

Eating three apples a day could help you to lose weight and significantly cut heart disease.   Apples and apple juice may improve memory.

Thanks to www.nyapplecountry.com, we can learn about different types of apples as well as locations for apple picking right here in Oneida County http://www.nyapplecountry.com/pick.php?county=oneida.  We can watch videos and enjoy some activities for the kids.   There are hundreds of apple recipes available on the site for everything from main courses to desserts.

Bundle up and enjoy a day visiting your favorite apple farm before the weather gets cold.
