In these tough economic times it’s hard to find a job. It seems that the job hunt goes on and on with no results. Here are some ideas that may help you in your job search.
-
Not all employers like to be contacted by Facebook or on the phone about job openings. Many employers like to physically see who is applying for a job. Besides that, you might just get lucky and walk in the door right after someone is fired or quits.
-
Using the internet you can get current job openings day or night, 24 hours a day.
-
Update your resume and post it to job sites such as monster.com or simplyhired.com. Action might be slow due to the amount of resumes and applications received, but if your Resume stands out it could garner the attention of someone important.
-
Connect to the companies you would like to work with on Facebook, Twitter and Myspace (yes myspace.com too!). Follow their conversations to see if they indicate they are hiring.
-
Check with major companies such as target.com, walmart.com, macys.com and more to complete their online application process. It’s free and easy.
-
Use search sites to help you connect with smaller companies in your area where you might be qualified to work. See if they have an internet site or social site.
-
A video resume is a great way for an employer to meet you.
-
Clean up your email address. Partygirl12@gmail is not appropriate for finding a job.
-
Clean up your social sites and remove those party pictures or slanderous comments.
-
If you are a professional, you must be connected with LinkedIn. Connect with managing partners, directors or human resources of the companies you are interested in.
It still is important to put your best foot forward. If you are seeking a job in person, take a minute to step out of your pajamas and fix your hair and dress appropriately.
These are only a few tips that might work for you. Consider adding your own in the comment section below. I always love to hear experiences from real people doing real things.
