Plenty of national chain joints are giving away complimentary items to make you forget about the IRS. A tall task, but it's worth a shot.

Here's a sampling:

• Get a free appetizer or dessert at Chili's with this coupon. Available April 16 through 18 with the purchase an entree.
• Get free Arby's curly fries on April 17 with this coupon.
• IHOP is offering free meals to kids with a paid adult meal from 4-10 p.m. during the entire month of April.
• McDonald's is offering a free pie or small cone with a purchase of $2.99 or more at participating locations.
• And finally, one non-chow related item: Go to Hallmark.com today and send free Tax Day condolence e-cards to all your friends and family. Why not? It's the least you can do.
